Are there any risks?

Remember that you will only be accepted as a blood donor if you are fit and well. Your health and well-being are very important to the blood transfusion service.

The needle and blood bag used to collect blood can only be used once and come in a sterile pack to ensure that the process is safe.

The process of giving blood involves screening the donor, the actual donation, and a brief recovery period.

Often donors are encouraged to sit down for few minutes after a donation to return to normality, as lightheadedness and faintness may occur.
